LinkedInFounded in 2024, Jardar (ճարտար), meaning ‘ingenious’ in Armenian, is a registered NGO in Armenia established by Shant Charoian. Derived from the root of the word ճարտարապետ (architect in Armenian), Jardar is focused on advancing architectural thinking in Armenia through its initiatives, such as The Oshakan Project and the upcoming Line: Armenian Architecture Biennial. With a mission to challenge the status quo, Jardar provides young designers with the tools and inspiration needed to rethink the future of architecture, emphasising sustainable practices and heritage preservation.
As Armenia experiences a construction boom, there is an urgent need to propose new visions for the adaptive reuse of its historic buildings before they are lost to unchecked development. Jardar aims to address this issue by broadening the perspectives of emerging architects and designers, sparking a desire for change in the current architectural and design systems. Through workshops, collaborations, and public events, Jardar seeks to empower the next generation to lead the transformation toward a more sustainable and thoughtful approach to building in Armenia.
